Welcome to Middle School Technology

My name is Sylvia Aslanian and I am part of the Technology Team.  I hold a Certificate in Multimedia/Visual Communications from the University of Phoenix and I am currently working on a BS in Information Technology/Multimedia and Visual Communication.

Grades 6, 7, and 8 technology students receive 1 hour of technology instructional time per week.  Advanced standards build upon the office suite application fluency acquired in prior years, and also emphasize desktop publishing, multimedia, and additional applied technology.  Many cross-curricular opportunities manifest themselves at this level with our science, language arts, social studies, drama, video production, and yearbook curriculums, among others.  With abundant potential to practically apply their technology skills, the technology program begins to truly expand beyond the one hour of formal classroom time allocated to this group. Each student has their own laptop facilitated by the school. They utilize the laptop for the online textbooks: Spanish and History. At this level students expand their use of Google Apps for Education. Digital Citizenship is emphasized throughout the year and formal lessons are given twice a year, as well as researching skills, citing sources, plagiarism and copyright rules.

The Millhopper Montessori School Responsible Use Policy must be signed by parents and students before a student is able to use the computers. Students will receive a log in name and password to log into the computers.

Expectations:

• 15 minutes of typing three times a week in Typing Pal beginning in September.
