Dear First and Second Grade Families,
We had a great first week of school! The children got a sense of our daily routine, and we discussed their rights and responsibilities in the classroom. We have been learning about teamwork, friendship, and respect, and read several books with these themes. Children started their “special” classes such as PE, Art, Music, Spanish, and Drama. They’ve also been working on their weekly “jobs”, as they learn to care for our classroom environment
I’ve been informally assessing the children’s work and giving review lessons to determine their levels in math and language. As the weeks go on I will be adjusting their work accordingly to make sure each child is challenged.
Next week will bring more exciting “firsts” as the children will begin attending reading groups with Ms. Elaine. They will also start Technology class, and have the chance to visit the Media Center with Ms. Jennifer, our Media Specialist.
Homework will be sent home next week on Monday. Homework should be turned in on Friday morning in the take-home folder. The children will take a spelling test on Friday to assess how well they learned their words. Second graders will have assignments on Spelling City (spellingcity.com) as part of their homework. Log-in information was included in the orientation packet. Please email me if you have trouble logging in, or have misplaced your name and password.
Thank you all for your part in making our first days go so smoothly. We look forward to the coming weeks! As always, please email me with questions or concerns.
Have a wonderful weekend!
