With the tool unit there are many new vocabulary words that will be presented in lessons and used by myself in class. Context will help with comprehension as the vocabulary is used throughout the days ahead as students handle the tools.

  • Hammer (claw)
  • Mallet
  • Chisel
  • Vise
  • Hand drill, electric drill
  • Drill bits
  • Bolt
  • Screw (Phillips, plain)
  • Nail
  • Pliers
  • Wrench (adjustable, standard, socket)
  • Saw (handsaw, hacksaw, coping saw, jigsaw)
  • Level, square, polysquare, measuring tape
  • Chalk line
  • Plumb

We discussed tool safety this week, how tools are made to be used in specific ways. If we use tools in ways which are not intended we could be injured. Many adults each year are injured using screwdrivers (for instance) to pry instead of screw. The students are being shown the safe method to use each size appropriate tool.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Parent Night this upcoming Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Please remember that this event is for you to watch your child work in the classroom. Please turn off your cell phones and keep adult conversations to a minimum as this is a very important and special night for your child to show pride in “teaching” you about their classroom routine.

Thank you to everyone who has arranged to bring in Halloween items for our treat bags and items for the fall festival. We greatly appreciate your generosity. Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special.

Have a lovely weekend and Go Gators,

Ms. Crystal
