Welcome to Orientation! Walk around the room with your child and explore some of the works on the shelves. The classroom is full of exciting materials!
Please notice the Parent Information Board located in the hallway by the door facing the Library/Media center. Periodically, we use sign-up sheets or e-mail to ask for help driving to field trips, preparing materials, bringing in special snack, cutting, laminating, cooking, sewing, gardening, etc. Also, if you have a special talent and would enjoy being a guest speaker, we welcome it!
GET INVOLVED! We need class coordinators to bring our plans to fruition and be a voice of our first & second grade classroom; e-mail Ms. Anita, email@example.com if you are interested in helping coordinate events, field trips and guest speakers/volunteers.
Our PTO President this year is Niya Dix; we congratulate her and hope that a parent of each child will attend at least one PTO meeting this school year. Look for the MMS News Blast email for the date and time. During this meeting, school-wide initiatives will be discussed and decided upon and we welcome your ideas! Fall Festival will be on the agenda and this is one big event that requires volunteer assistance to make it a success!
Please use the car drop-off and pick-up service. You may pull around to the front door of the classroom and a safety patrol will help your child arrive safely to class. The drop-off service is available from 8:40 am to 9:00 am each morning. Please check in with the front office if you arrive after the 9:00 am bell.
In the afternoon, the pick-up service is available from 2:55pm to 3:05pm. If you arrive early, please park and wait to pick up your child no earlier than 2:55pm. On Mondays, please try not to schedule appointments or pick up your child before the end of the school day. We have in-class Homework Review until 3pm.
Snacks: We provide a snack during morning work cycle. If there are allergies or sensitivities we ask the parents to please provide the daily snack for their child. If at any time you would like to bring in a special snack please just let us know a day in advance.
Study Hall: This is available after school in the fourth/fifth grade classroom. Your child first needs to check into the after school program. Please let your child know if he or she needs to go to Study Hall. There will be an announcement from an aftercare supervisor when Study Hall begins. It begins at 3pm and ends at 4:30pm. If there is inclement weather outside or a staff member is out, then study hall may be cancelled.
Guidance: In addition, we strongly encourage the child to be held accountable for a few reasonable activities at an early age. The independent child has good self-esteem, is healthy and can do things without the help of an adult. We suggest you try and nurture this type of healthy environment at home. This kind of living sets the child up for success and frees up your time. Guide your child by their side and don’t do things for your child because it’s easier for you. Allow them the opportunity to do things without help. Let them surprise you. Next time you go somewhere let your child decide which route to take and let them lead you using their navigational skills. Turn off the GPS and allow them to problem solve, it’s okay to get lost and see what happens. When children fail at something and get back up to try again for his or her self, you are nurturing independence. Though nature plays some part in a child’s behavior, the independent learner will emerge into a healthy adult. Learning from mistakes will make your child a better decision maker, therefore helping to make our world a better place and a future of healthy and happy adults.
We ask that you allow your child to pack up his or her homework and/or reading assignments, be a part of packing lunch and to carry all of his or her things into the classroom (lunchbox, backpack, folder, etc.) This encourages independence and high self-esteem.
School Day: Class starts at 8:45 and the final bell is at 9:00 a.m. There will be a teacher to greet and show each child where to place his or her item(s)/lunchbox. Class meetings and/or lessons begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. every morning.
We look forward to spending this year with your family.
