My name is Branislava Lakic –McLeod and I am the new Art teacher at the Millhopper Montessori School.
I am originally from Serbia, Europe. I attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia, where I graduated in 1996. Before I moved to Gainesville I lived in quite a few different places including New York. I completed my Educator Preparation Institute Course at the Santa Fe Community College and I interned in Ms. Pettigrew’s wonderful art class at the Kimball Wiles Elementary School. I was a teacher at the Alachua Learning Center in Alachua for two years teaching art to students from kindergarten to eighth grade.
About our art class:
Throughout the school year we will be exploring different subjects, themes and symbols. Even my youngest students will become familiar with fundamentals of art, elements of art, and principles of design. Everyone will get a chance to apply basic art processes and use a variety of media, techniques, and tools. We will also try to understand and remember the historical and cultural aspects of art, periods of art, trends, styles, and major artists.
I am going to make sure that we use our time as efficiently and effectively as possible. I also promise to collect, neatly file and send student’s art home at the end of the year.
I expect students to listen, follow instructions, use art materials and tools in a safe and responsible manner, work cooperatively with their classmates, and complete all of the assignments. I have positive expectations for all of my students’ success. Children are the most creative people and best artists in the world, after all.
I hope that your son /daughter will enjoy this class and our projects just like I used to enjoy my art class when I was young.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or suggestions at any time.
